Kansas climate and HVAC cost
Kansas sees hot, humid summers and cold winters, which drives equipment sizing on both heating and cooling. Most of the state falls in IECC climate zone 4 or 5, which affects duct insulation, sealing and testing requirements under the local energy code edition.
Hail exposure is a Kansas-specific cost driver. Rooftop units and condensers in Wichita, Hutchinson and the metro are frequently damaged by hail, so many owners specify hail guards. Wind affects equipment anchorage and curb attachment on roofs.
Commercial vs. residential
For commercial buildings we work from mechanical schedules, plans and details, pricing sheet metal by weight and piping by system. For homes and multifamily we price systems per unit, including equipment, duct systems, venting, and combustion air for gas appliances.
Industrial mechanical
Process exhaust, makeup air, paint booths, compressed air and refrigeration for food processing are common in Kansas industrial projects. See industrial estimating.
Labor pricing
Sheet metal labor is priced per pound by duct class and height. Piping labor is priced by size and joining method. Equipment setting includes rigging and crane time where needed, which can be substantial for rooftop units on multi-story buildings.

Frequently asked questions
How do you take off ductwork?
We measure duct runs by size and convert rectangular duct to weight by gauge, which is how sheet metal is priced. Round and spiral duct, flex duct, fittings, dampers, insulation and hangers are listed separately.
Do you include hail guards on outdoor equipment?
When specified, yes, and we flag their absence on Kansas projects where owners commonly expect them. Hail guards protect condenser coils on rooftop units and split systems.
Do you estimate controls?
We take off control points and devices for budgeting. Building automation systems are often carried as a subcontractor quote, and we provide a scope sheet for it.
