Electrical Estimating and Takeoffs in Kansas

We take off and price electrical work for Kansas contractors, from service entrance and switchgear to feeders, branch circuits, devices, lighting, low-voltage systems and fire alarm. Counts and lengths are taken from plans, panel schedules and riser diagrams, and labor is priced from unit labor values adjusted for the job conditions.

How electrical labor is priced

Electrical labor drives most of the cost. We apply unit labor values per item and per foot, then adjust for the conditions on your job: working height, existing building work, phasing, prefabrication and the experience of your crews. You get labor hours as well as dollars, so you can staff and schedule the job.

Kansas electrical market conditions

  • Skilled labor demand. The Panasonic battery plant in De Soto, data center campuses in the metro and large Wichita manufacturing projects compete for electricians. That affects sub pricing and productivity assumptions.
  • Long-lead gear. Switchgear and transformers have had long lead times; we flag them and can include escalation allowances.
  • Code editions. NEC adoption varies by jurisdiction, so we confirm the edition before pricing items such as GFCI, AFCI and surge protection requirements.
  • Utilities. Evergy serves much of eastern and central Kansas, while rural cooperatives serve many smaller communities. Service extension and transformer costs differ, so confirm who pays for what.

Residential electrical

For homes, we count devices and fixtures by room, size the service and panel, and add specialty circuits for kitchens, HVAC, EV chargers and shops. Rural projects may include long underground service runs from a cooperative transformer.

HVAC and mechanical and plumbing share coordination items, such as equipment connections, that we cross-check across trades. Industrial contractors should see industrial estimating.

Frequently asked questions

Which edition of the National Electrical Code applies in Kansas?

It depends on the jurisdiction. Kansas cities and counties adopt the NEC locally, and several have been moving to the 2023 NEC. Confirm the edition with the local building department because it affects requirements such as GFCI and AFCI protection and surge protection.

How do you measure conduit and wire?

We scale homeruns and feeders from the plans, add vertical drops and rises from ceiling heights, and apply makeup allowances at panels and devices. Wire is calculated from conduit runs and conductor counts.

Do you include low voltage and fire alarm?

Yes, as separate sections: data and telecom, security and access control, audio-visual rough-in, and fire alarm devices and wiring.
